sketch of city paperWhy I sketch

The relationship between an artist and her or his sketchbook is an intimate one. It is the unfiltered visualization of the mind's eye free from expectations and constraints.
In the manner of speaking aloud to gague the efficacy of our rhetoric, we sketch for ourselves to assess our materialized thoughts.
At its most basic level, it's the "yoga" of artistic expression; not the opus magnum, but the exercise that keeps us nimble for larger work.
Each of my sketchbooks is dear to me. The changes, limitations and themes that have emerged give me perspective on my craft.
